Some days, I really struggle to explain stuff. For example, we're studying geology in science right now. Well, how do we know what we know about the core and the mantle of the earth? The idea that there's a ball of iron in the center of the planet is rather hard to grasp.

This afternoon, something else rather abstract became a whole lot more real (though just for me, not for my class).
First, why don't you look at a picture:

It's true. I'm 11w1d today. Wheeee!

This afternoon, we went and listened to the baby's heartbeat for the first time. Just like good 21st-century parents with more gadgets than we know what to do with, we recorded it.

It starts out with me fibbing about taking my vitamins (eeevil! - the vitamins, not me) and my doctor suggesting I keep them with my hair brush to avoid "forgetting" them. Then you hear the little heart gallop pretty well for a bit, until The Husband interrupts, then there's more static, then more heartbeat.

Settle in, you guys. I have 6 more days of first trimester, and I intend to use that time to get all the suppressed b*tching for the last 2 months off my (recently much enlarged) chest.
But through the nauseous misery that has taken over my life, I am thrilled.

OMG! Congratulations! The hairbrush thing totally wouldn't work for me, since I rarely brush my hair (the curls, not a lack of hygiene), but do whatever works.

Congrats. I loved going to the dr to listen to the heartbeat of the girls. Are you going to find out what is when you have your ultra sound or are you going to wait to for a suprise?

Congratulations to both of you!
New parents, yay!
Are you already speaking German to him/her?
Drink lots of water and try to get lots of rest.
(You didn't think you could blog about this without getting oodles of unsolicited advice, did you?)

OHHHHH, I'm so excited!!
I just thought you were busy with school, not puking your guts out. Hopefully the morning sickness will pass.
I was one of the lucky ones who never got sick with either kid.

I know I'm late to comment here, but I'm thrilled for you. And I LOVE the dress shot above with the little belly starting to think about peaking out. YAY for babies!
